What makes men different from women is the “Y” chromosome right? This “Y” fills the women’s lives with many whys.
Why are they staring like that?
Why can’t I stay longer?
Why can’t I wear this?
Why can’t I eat that?
Why can’t I go there?
Why should only I do this?
Why can’t I do this?
Etc…
Etc…
Sometimes I forget that men do have an “X”, that is out of 46, 45 chromosomes are the same. Because the way men treat the other fifty percent of the human population is the most inhuman thing. They say it’s 2024, women are at the best place in history. Is it something to be proud of? What’s pride in saying that for the whole of humanity half of the population was treated as objects rather than humans.
This is scary to think this, the present is the best where women ever have been. That these rights are the most they got. The freedom they now have, we now have. That the safety, the equality we have reached is the most in the whole of the human civilization ever. BRAVO dear men, for who other than you can be this cruel.
Ok, it’s been three waves of feminism. #MeToo is something which led to isolation of women in public sphere according to many “MEN”. Because again how to stop misogyny? How not to make a women feel unsafe? That’s rather though, right? Women should give up their mind, self-respect and dignity to step out of their houses, right?
Wahoo! What happened? Why are you spitting facts? Why don’t you get to the point? Where is this going? The world is harsh, if you don’t have the strength then stay indoors. My brain and experience say some of the other halves are already thinking this, if reached here. So, I’ll get to the point. I’ll lay a few incidents which have been haunting me and many others for the past couple of months.
The letter to CJI requesting permission to end life.
A woman judge in Uttar Pradesh wrote an open letter to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on December 14, 2023, alleging sexual harassment by a district judge and his associates during her previous posting in Barabanki. She also requested permission to die by suicide, saying that she had no will to live and that the inquiry into her complaint was a farce and a sham. Chief Justice Chandrachud took note of the letter and asked for a report from the Allahabad High Court administration on the status of the inquiry by the next morning. Woman judge also claimed that her petition to transfer the district judge pending the inquiry was dismissed by the Supreme Court in just eight seconds.
But WHY?
Who committed suicide, judge or justice?
Jyotsna Rai was a 29-year-old civil judge who was found hanging in her official residence on February 4, 2024 in Budaun, Uttar Pradesh. The police initially considered it a case of suicide and recovered some documents, including a purported suicide note, from her apartment. However, her father filed a complaint alleging that his daughter was murdered by unidentified persons. He claimed that she had no reason to end her life and that there were signs of struggle and injury on her body. The police registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and said they would investigate the matter based on the evidence and the post-mortem report. The post-mortem report identified the cause of death as ”ante-mortem hanging”, which means that she was alive when she hanged herself. The case has sparked outrage and demand for justice among the legal fraternity and the public, who suspect foul play and pressure on the judge. The case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made so far.
But WHY?
Tripura judge case
A 27-year-old woman, who was allegedly raped by a youth on February 13, 2024, accused a first-class judicial magistrate of sexually assaulting her when she went to record her statement in his chamber on February 16, 2024. The woman’s husband lodged a complaint with the Kamalpur Bar Association, which forwarded it to the additional district judge. A three-member panel led by the district and sessions judge was constituted to probe the incident. The accused judge was transferred to the Agartala High Court and kept on compulsory waiting for further posting, while another judge was given additional charge of his post. The woman also lodged a police complaint against the judge, but no FIR was registered yet. The police referred the matter to the high court for legal action.
Marital rape
On May 11, 2023, the Delhi High Court delivered a split verdict on the issue of criminalising marital rape, which is the act of non-consensual sexual intercourse by a husband with his wife. The case was filed by a batch of petitioners who challenged the exception in Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which says that sexual intercourse by a man with his wife aged 18 or above is not rape even if it is without her consent. The two-judge bench of Justice Rajiv Shakdher and Justice C Hari Shankar expressed opposing views on the matter. Justice Shakdher struck down the exception as unconstitutional, saying that it violated the fundamental rights of a married woman and that it was “morally repugnant” and “tragic” to deny her justice. Justice Shankar, however, upheld the exception as constitutional, saying that it was based on an intelligible differentia and that it did not violate any law or principle. The bench agreed to grant a certificate of leave to appeal to the Supreme Court, as the issue involved substantial questions of law that required a decision from the top court.
Menstrual leave
Menstrual leave is a special leave that an employer may offer to its female employees on account of experiencing discomfort during their menstrual cycle, in addition to their entitled bucket of leaves. The existing labour laws in India do not expressly envisage or provide for paid/unpaid leave on account of menstruation, and as such, there is no legal requirement for Indian employers to provide menstrual leave to their employees as of date. In the past few years, some private member Bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha to propose menstrual leave, but none of them were passed or enacted. On December 13, 2023, Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani opposed the idea of menstrual leave in the Rajya Sabha, saying that it could lead to discrimination against women in the workforce and that menstruation is not a handicap. On May 11, 2023, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking menstrual leave for employees and students nationwide, stating that it is a policy issue and that menstrual pain leave could have various implications and could discourage employers from hiring female workers.
The trapped journalist in a media house
Zennat Siddiqui is an Indian television anchor and journalist who works as an anchor and producer at Zee Media. She has alleged that she was harassed, abused, and held hostage by some of her colleagues at the Zee News office on February 6, 2024. She claimed that she was forced to resign from her job and that her belongings were confiscated. She also said that she was denied access to the washroom and her phone, and that she was offered tea and biscuits laced with drugs. She managed to escape from the office and filed a police complaint, but no FIR was registered yet. She also accused the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of being biased and misogynist in handling her previous complaint of sexual harassment by a senior editor.
The fragile male ego
Prateek Aaryan is an X user who shared a video of Shruti Parija, a professional choreographer and dancer, performing at a college fest on February 13, 2024.
Prateek Aaryan made a derogatory remark on the video, calling it a “kotha” (a term associated with brothels) and criticizing the cultural system of Indian schools and colleges. Shruti Parija commented on the post and requested Prateek Aaryan to take down the video, saying that she did not consent to him reposting her video and that she was not associated with the college. Prateek Aaryan refused to take down the video, saying that he did not say anything wrong about her and that he was expressing his general opinion on the college system. Shruti Parija sought help from the Mumbai Police on X, who responded to her and asked her to share her contact details with them.
WHO AM I ?
I am the wife whose husband imposed himself on me but, somehow as owning something gives excess to using it court said marrying permitted him to assault me.
I am the girl who stopped going out, cause the group of boys following me were my own doing.
I am the 12 year old girl whose brother killed her. He killed me because I was mensurating and he thought I was engaged in sexual activities.
I am the woman who was paraded and assaulted in Manipur.
I am the teen girl who was assaulted for a whole year and now I have to give birth because I was denied abortion.
I am that widow, whom you denied excess to every happiness.
I am the wife who had to choose between my dream and family.
I am the daughter who was forced to choose a different subject than what I wanted to do.
I am the girl who cried because a stranger won’t listen to my constant no in a mall. He kept talking and asking questions until I shouted and went to another group of girls. AND still, I feel lucky that, that was it.
I am the classmate, about whom you spread rumors because I was talking to a guy.
I am the infant, whose birth made you sad.
I am your daughter, your sister, your friend, your wife, your partner, your colleague, your acquaintance, your co-passenger, that one random stranger.
And I want to ask you WHY?
whY?
Why a high court judge could not get justice for herself?
Why did her peers look away from the injustice she faced?
Why does the one responsible for justice suffer injustice?
Why the victims pleading for justice punished instead of the perpetrator?
Why did the bearer of justice become the symbol of injustice?
Why did complaining in ICC lead to trouble?
Why did complaining against harassment lead to more harassment?
Why was the voice supposed to speak for others silenced?
Why did a performance at an event lead to defamation on a public video/
Why did a simple request to remove a video become a point of aggression?
And these whYs lead to many other whys too…
Why the false façade of equality?
Why the mask of equity?
Why is there no place safe enough to breathe?
Why is the male ego too fragile?
Why am I less safe than an animal?
Why can’t a judge, a journalist protect herself in this society?
Why do you as a male feel the need to demonstrate this false superiority?
Why do I have to choose between the life I want to live and to just live?
Why is it that you do evil deeds, and I must be ashamed?
Why am a woman but not a human?
Why are you my perpetrator pretending to be a savior?
Why you as a man make others bleed and it’s praised but my bleeding for creation is a curse?
Why do you see me as an object?
Why do your eyes make me feel dirty?
Why does your touch make me tear my skin off?
Why do I still live?
Why do I still exist?
Why do I keep letting you exist?
Why do I since teenage go through pain for you?
Why do I carry you, feeding on my blood?
Why do you hate that very blood so much?
Why do you hate your origin?
Why do you make me and hate your origin too?
Why does your Y blind you to my tears, deaf to my cries?
WhYYYYYYYYYYY?
